This photo was taken May of 2010 while sailing through the Kuna Yala Islands off the Caribbean coast of Panama on the sailboat Sacanagem. It was one of the best trips I’ve ever taken. For 5 days I was unplugged from the world with nothing but a vintage copy of Treasure Island to pass the time. Of course that was when I wasn’t swimming, diving, snorkeling, eating fresh sea food and basking in the equatorial sun. I selected this image today because my original goal this Christmas was to travel someplace warm. But the more I think about it, the happier I am with my decision to stay home and enjoy the nearly 3 feet of snow we’ve had this winter. Minnesota will always be my first love.
